MARQUETTE -- This year's theatre season continues at Northern Michigan University with the production of "Bears." The play is the winner of the 2012 Panowski Playwriting Competition and is the work of Mark Rigney.

The story focuses on three bears in a zoo who find themselves in a world where human society is almost gone. They venture out into the wilderness and find themselves woefully unprepared.

"When the audience leaves and heads for home or wherever they go next, if it's a coffee house or if it's a long car ride, that they walk away with a conversation that they weren't expecting to have. If it can take you somewhere that you haven't been, there's nothing that I could possibly provide that's better," said playwright Mark Rigney.

Opening night for the play is Wednesday, November 14. The show runs through Saturday with a matinee performance Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 for NMU students and $15 for the general public. They are available at NMU EZ ticket outlets.
