An update for Ishpeming's historic library

ISHPEMING -- The Carnegie Library in Ishpeming is one step closer to being more accessible to people with disabilities. Community leaders and library staff held a ribbon cutting for the completion of two new wheelchair ramps. This ends phase one of a three phase project. The total cost of the project is about $300,000.

"People really love this place. It's been here since 1904, it's really closely tied to the community, and people really do have a strong support for the library. We kind of consider this a community hub, and we like to fill that service," said Library Director John McNaughton.

Library donor Betty Anderson was the first to use the ramp. She donated a significant sum of money for the project. The next phases will include improvements to the bathroom and a renovation of the front entrance of the library.
