MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- A full-day child care program is getting kids outside this summer, and they are learning while they play.

Child & Family Services of the Upper Peninsula offers the program Monday through Friday at North Star Academy Elementary School in Marquette Township.

Youth, ages 4 years and 9 months to 14 years, may enroll at the fully-licensed child care center.

They have a flexible schedule, starting at 6:45 a.m. and staying open until 5:30 p.m.

The staff keeps it educational as the kids spend a lot of time outdoors.

"This year our theme is traveling and the world," said Shelley Young of Child & Family Services of the Upper Peninsula. "So we're going to spend some time learning about different countries and their cultures and things like that. And during the Olympics, we're going to be traveling to London and doing some Olympic events."
