MARQUETTE -- The Upper Peninsula Health Access Coalition held its annual dinner Thursday night honoring "Heroes for the Uninsured." The coalition works to connect low income residents with basic health care access. That includes volunteer doctors and local pharmacies. To date, more than 3,000 people across the U.P. use the coalition programs. Thursday night was all about honoring those who volunteer and help make health care more accessible.
"We do help a lot of people, a lot of people that wouldn't be helped otherwise, and that's what this gathering is about is to celebrate our success in doing that," said Dr. Thomas LeGalley, the Keynote speaker for Thursday's event.
Seven local doctors and organizations were honored with awards at Thursday's banquet. LeGalley also said he's proud to see the group start in Marquette County and branch out to cover all of Upper Michigan.
