FELCH -- He's the author of kooky children's books like Gruesome Ghouls of Grand Rapids and AuSable Alligators, and this week he's in the U.P.

Johnathan Rand is a well-known children's author from Michigan.  He is traveling to each school in Dickinson County thanks to sponsors David and Elsa Brule.

Rand has visited 1,300 schools across the country and says he hopes to give kids a valuable message.

"What I really want to do is help them realize if they can read well and write well, they're going to be well on their way to do whatever they want to do, whether it's a mechanic, teacher, or any other career," said Rand.

Rand will be giving one more presentation on Thursday night at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain at 6:30 p.m.
