MARQUETTE -- Representatives from local sportsmen and wildlife groups gathered Monday night for the Upper Peninsula Citizens Advisory Council's annual joint meeting.

The main topic of concern was user fees.  The council learned about a proposed increase to fishing and hunting licenses.

The majority of the audience agreed with the increase but wants to make sure the revenue goes to enhancing funding.  The plan by Governor Snyder, if passed, could increase revenue up to $18 million.

"It's going to do a lot in the future, for not just the fishery and wildlife programs, but the entire department in general, law enforcement is going to get a huge increase for someone who's studying, that it gives me a lot of hope for my future," said Kim Randolph, Fish and Wildlife student.

A representative from the governor's office wants to have the fee increases in place by June.
