MARQUETTE -- The Presque Isle Park Advisory Committee held a special meeting at the Moosewood Nature Center to discuss a proposed inclusive playground at the park. Those in opposition from the Laughing Whitefish Audubon Society say the manmade structure would take away from the natural beauty of the park and scare off native birds. The playground is designed for children of all ages and abilities and would be located near the nature center.
"We want their ideas as to what the best way would be to incorporate nature into the park. The industry that produces these kinds of playgrounds has an almost unlimited number of options in terms of teaching techniques, various kinds of stimulus for the kids that use these playgrounds," said Bob Chapman of the PIPAC.
The proposal is still going through planning and design. The playground could cost up to $800,000, however, PIPAC is exploring grant opportunities to help with the cost.
