NEGAUNEE -- Around 40 kids were fighting hunger around the world Friday night. Volunteers, along with church members from the Negaunee Immanuel Lutheran Church, organized this project to show children that they can have a global impact on hunger. The kids made up 8,000 packages and filled them with a healthy meal designed to deliver the best nutrition.

"All are our neighbors and so we reach out in love and in care and not just in words, but in action. No matter what our age or our geography, we can make a difference and an impact upon neighbors close at hand and far away," said Pastor Steve Solberg of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

The meals were made up of rice, soy and dried vegetables. The food will be picked up on Tuesday and sent to distribution centers across the country. The packages will be shipped out to countries like Haiti that have a critical need for food.
