The Maritime Museum in Marquette organized a commemorative 100th anniversary dinner of the last meal served on the ship at the Landmark Inn
MARQUETTE -- Exactly 100 years ago Saturday, the Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean claiming more than 1,500 lives.
The Maritime Museum in Marquette organized a commemorative 100th anniversary dinner of the last meal served on the ship at the Landmark Inn. This is the museum's largest fundraiser of the year. For $125, the 60 attendees enjoyed a formal seven course dinner. Many dressed in era-appropriate attire. Upon registering, attendees were given the name of a real first class passenger. At the end of the dinner, they found out if their passenger lived or died.
"It's definitely a somber event when you get to the end of the evening, and you realize what these people went through, but it's also a way to celebrate their life and what they represented and what they mean to history," said Carrie Fries, Executive Director of the museum.
The evening was educational as well as social.
