IRON MOUNTAIN -- Your family may be in danger in your very own home and may not even know it.

Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that you can't see, smell or taste.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it's the leading cause of lung cancer deaths among non-smokers in America.

The month of January is National Radon Action Month and radon tests can be purchased for half-off from the health department.

"We send out information in the newspapers and inform people that tests are half-off and to inform people to test for radon," says Sheila Mcaulty of the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department. "We just think it’s an important thing."

The EPA and Surgeon General's Office estimate as many as 20,000 lung cancer deaths are caused by radon each year.

It also costs the United States over two billion in health care costs annually.
