Billy Alberts has been playing music since he was four years old.
MARQUETTE -- It's musicians and singers like Billy Alberts that keep the Marquette music scene thriving. Most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays he's performing at a restaurant or bar.
He caught the music bug at an early age.
"I played piano when I was about four,” said Alberts. “My mom was an excellent piano player--there was always a piano in the house--and she taught me early, and then I just kind of went off on my own."
From there, he picked up the guitar and harmonica. Billy played in a band through high school and college.
"It's been a passion my whole life,” Alberts said. “I've been fortunate to make a living, a meager, nice living at playing music."
While he loves to play original music that he's written himself, he knows the audience loves to hear classic songs.
"It brings back memories, wow, late '60s, late '70s, early '80s, '90s, recognizable tunes,” Alberts said. “I think songs take people back to a place; a memory of an old girlfriend, their family, their upbringing, when they went to college. It just depends on the song."
To hear Billy live on stage, he'll next be performing at the Holiday Inn in Marquette Friday night.
