MARQUETTE, MI -- A new exhibit in Marquette will highlight folklore traditions from around the U.P.
'Stories from the Woods' opened Thursday at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center on Northern Michigan University's campus.
Video clips from the 1930s, five audio stations, and several narrative text panels make up the free, multimedia experience.
Center curator Daniel Truckey says visitors can expect to hear folk songs and tales, some of which have never been heard before.
"It's an opportunity for people to learn about the folklore of the Upper Peninsula, the storytelling traditions, but also through the eyes of the many folklorists who have come here to learn about the traditions in the Upper Peninsula."
An opening reception will be held Thursday night from 7-9 p.m.
The exhibit will be open through April, then will tour throughout the U.P. for three more years.
