BIG BAY -- Anglers of all ages are setting up their shanties on Lake Independence Saturday.

This weekend is the 33rd Annual Big Bay Fishing Derby. It draws in more than 200 people looking for a big catch.

What sets the Big Bay Fishing Derby apart from others is their team event category.

This year 31 teams entered the competition. Once the anglers are on the ice, it's time to sit and wait for a bite.

"It's just getting out there and the challenge of catching fish through the ice. It's just a good time. Some days you don't catch anything, some days you catch dinner," said Timothy Leahy, angler.

The money raised from the fishing derby goes to the 550 Snowmobile Club. The club maintains the snowmobile trails in Big Bay.
