MARQUETTE -- The DNR sought to cool some heads Saturday as they hosted one of many informational meetings regarding bear management in the U.P.

Recent studies show one conflicting numbers on the bear quota. Now a proposal sits before the Natural Resources Commission that would determine how many bear hunting licenses will be available in 2012. At NMU, wildlife experts answered questions from concerned hunters.

"There's still some need for people to understand what the study is portraying and there's room for public input so they can ask questions and get guided into the right direction so they feel comfortable as to what the DNR is doing," Nancy Hudson, secretary and treasurer of the U.P. Bear Houndsmen Association, said.

The Natural Resources Commission plans to vote on the proposal next week.
