MARQUETTE -- The winter sees less sunshine than the summer, but it's still a good idea to wear your sunglasses.

Exposing your eyes to bright conditions increases the chances of your eyes developing cataracts.

Fresh snow is highly reflective.  Make sure your lenses are polarized and have ultraviolet protection.

"Having sunglasses in the winter time is as important, if not more important than the summertime, because there's so much snow and so much glare, and it's incredibly bright out because of that," said Jenny Webb of Downtown Eyecare.

Transition lenses are also effective at protecting your eyes, but they do not transition if you're inside a car.
