MARQUETTE -- The Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) is offering a free diabetes workshop in Marquette.  It's called Personal Action Toward Health, or PATH.

The program is six weeks long and teaches people with Type 2 diabetes about ways to manage the disease.  Monday's workshop focused on healthy eating.

Participants broke into groups and planned healthy meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

"The program is designed to compliment existing programs. We encourage folks that come to the class that this is a tool for them, and they're able to take the tools that they learn in the class and once it's done, they need to go out and it's up to them to be able to make the changes that they need to make to stay healthy," said Program Coordinator, Tonya LaFave.

The PATH workshops are in their second week.  The plan is to expand the program to other areas of Upper Michigan.
