OSF St. Francis gains national recognition

ESCANABA -- Honors have gone out to OSF Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Group for recently achieved national recognition.

They were named a top hospital by the Leapfrog Group.  It's an organization ranking hospitals on quality of care giving and safety.

It's the first year OSF has  received the award.  They were also given an "A" rating for their safety score.  Patient Safety Officer, Amber Mayers says the improvements they've recently made at St. Francis, includes a new electronic medical record to enter orders.  There's also a new barcode scanning system to ensure patients get the right medication.

"We are very excited because out of nearly 1200 hospitals that actually participated in this survey, which is a very comprehensive survey to participate in, because that's a lot of data-diving," said Mayers.   

OSF St. Francis is the only rural hospital in Michigan to receive this award.
