IRON MOUNTAIN -- Residents in Dickinson County can feel safer, thanks to a traffic safety grant awarded to the Michigan State Police post in Iron Mountain.
The $8,000 grant from AAA is providing the police post with 12 Automated External Defibrillators, or AED. The machines are used on individuals suffering a cardiac arrest.
"Since they are first responders, there's a good possibility these will mean even more lifesaving than there normally is," said traffic safety manager, Jack Peet.
"It's one more tool in our tool box to have, insisting people, not only on the roads, but if we get called to their residences," said community services trooper Geno Basanese. "It's just nice to have that with us."
Thanks to the grant, every car at the state police post in Iron Mountain is now fully equipped with an AED.
