Weekend Meteorologist/Multimedia Journalist

There’s an exciting opportunity now available in TV broadcasting in Upper Michigan. WLUC-TV6 is looking for a Meteorologist to handle weekends and work as a Multi-Media Journalist. The right person for our team needs to be a great communicator on-air and on-line. This is a full-time position.

WLUC is the leader in News, Weather and Sports in Upper Michigan. That’s due to the dedicated people working at WLUC and FOX UP. The stations are owned by Gray Television. Gray is a small to medium market TV station owner. They have 70 stations stretching from Maine to Nevada.

The Weekend Meteorologist/MMJ is key to TV6 and FOXUP coverage on weekends. They also back up the Chief Meteorologist, weekday evenings and the Morning News Meteorologist, Monday through Friday. The right person is responsible for forecasting weather in one of the most diverse areas of the country. As a Meteorologist, you will be responsible for weather content on-air and on our digital platforms. You will issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report Live during weather events. You must be able to utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories. Duties include forecasting, producing and presenting clear and concise weathercasts, telling a story and connecting with viewers. You’ll develop content and graphics for on-air and social media, make public appearances on behalf of the station, do Live shots and report from community events and in Breaking News situations.

As a reporter 3 days a week, you will need the skills to tell memorable stories. You'll also report, shoot, write and edit news stories. You'll be expected to enterprise story ideas and develop contacts as well as other responsibilities as assigned. We value visual and compelling storytelling. You will be expected to produce news content on a variety of platforms including, internet, social networking sites and mobile phones, in addition to television.

A strong on-air, conversational presentation is a must. You’ll work three days as an MMJ. On weekends, your time is split between weather anchoring and reporting. We operate with state-of-the-art equipment, including a new set and control room.

A clean driving record is a requirement and must be maintained. We cover LOCAL news across Upper Michigan traveling considerable distances. A knowledge of weather computers and systems is definitely plus.
