Showdown of the week: Kingsford vs. Menominee

KINGSFORD, Mich. (WLUC) - The Menominee Maroons and Kingsford Flivvers will renew their rivalry for the 66th time this Friday night.

The Menominee Maroons are currently 4-0 heading into week 5, but this week the Maroons will face their longtime rivals-the Kingsford Flivvers.

"They realize what is at stake this week. Going to Kingsford is a difficult task and we have not won a whole lot there in the last 25 years. So, the focus has been great, the effort has been good, and the attitude has been super," said Menominee Head Coach, Joe Noha.

"It is one of the toughest in the conference. I mean, this is like the game in the conference. Us two go at it pretty good," said Tanner Mathias, Menominee senior TE/DE.

72 miles away, the Kingsford Flivvers are 3-1 and on a three game win streak, but they know this game will not be easy.

"Well, I mean it's a big game. It is one of our biggest games of the year every year, so I mean we put a little extra emphasis on it," said Kingsford Head Coach, Chris Hofer.

"We are really working on just doing things right in practice, getting everything down like we are going to do it in the game, going hard, and making sure we are prepared for anything they have to throw at us," said Kingsford senior RB, Owen Petschar.

Last season, the Maroons grabbed a 27-24 victory over the Flivvs. For the last Flivver victory in this rivalry, you would have to go back to 2012, when the Flivvs won 14-13 at home. And for the seniors in this rivalry, this game is one they will always remember.

"It would be a big deal to us. I mean, I know all the seniors really want it. They are our rivals," said Menominee senior RB/DB, Keifer Rasner.

"It is our last year to get after them, so we really want to take it to them this year and win," said Kingsford senior RB, Trevor Roberts.

This Friday, the Maroons and Flivvers will face off for their 66th meeting.
