HOUGHTON, Mi. The Northern Michigan women's soccer team battled rival Michigan Tech to a scoreless draw Friday afternoon at Sherman Field.

Alexandra Simmons made six saves to earn her second-straight shutout and run the Wildcats' unbeaten streak to four games.

In the 87th minute of the match, Kirsen Hudak denied Carmen Villarruel to send the game into bonus time.

Paula Hafner had a chance to end the game in the 93rd minute when she corralled her own blocked shot and fired a shot on net, but Hudak was there to make the save.

Simmons recorded two of her saves in the overtime periods. In the 101st minute of the match, she turned aside a Marisa DeMario bid to maintain the scoreless deadlock.

In the month of October, the Wildcats posted a 3-2-3 record, with both of their losses coming by a 1-0 margin. They are unbeaten in their past four games, going 2-0-2 over that stretch.

Simmons's shutout was the ninth of her collegiate career.

With the tie, Northern Michigan clinched a spot in the 2016 GLIAC Tournament. The Wildcats will travel to top-seeded Grand Valley State Nov. 1 for a 2 p.m. game.
