Wisconsin man dead after snowmobile crash in Keweenaw County

ALLOUEZ TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - On Thursday, March 8th, Deputies from the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to investigate a single snowmobile accident that occurred on Trail #3, 1.3 miles North of U.S. 41 in Allouez Township.

A snowmobile driven by 58-year-old Dale A. Wiza of Franklin, Wisconsin was traveling on Trail #3 near Seneca Lake when he failed to negotiate a corner, left the trail, and lost control of the snowmobile causing it to roll.

Wiza sustained fatal injuries during the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Keweenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office investigated the scene and the victim was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the accident which is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were assisted by the Ahmeek Village Off Road Rescue Unit, Allouez Township Medical First Responders, and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.
