ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) -
The Western Marquette County Health Foundation presented a check for $50,000 to Western Marquette County's four school districts Monday afternoon.
Negaunee, Ishpeming, NICE, and Republic-Michigamme school districts will all receive an equal portion of the money: $12,500. The schools will be using the funds for health-related purposes, like nursing services and counseling services.
"The health foundation is all about health and wellness in the western part of Marquette County,” said Tom Edmark, the foundation’s chairman. “So when we started this back three years ago, the intent was to promote health and wellness within the school districts… to help the kids, help the students, become more healthy."
This is the third consecutive year the foundation has issued the $50,000 in funds to the school districts. Edmark says the funding will continue in the future.
