MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) The wait is finally coming to an end as the big announcement for the Kraft Hockeyville USA contest is taking place Saturday afternoon.

Lakeview Arena is competing against the Rushmore Thunderdome in Rapid City, South Dakota. The winner between the two arenas will host a pre-season NHL game, along with a gift of $150,000 for arena upgrades. Lakeview Arena is looking to get new boards around the ice and updates on the infrastructure. The Thunderdome has already started a locker room project for its renovations. A viewing party to watch the announcement is taking place at Lakeview Arena with doors opening at 1:30 p.m.

"We will have standing room in the Russell Arena” said Andrew MacIver, Parks and Recreation Coordinator for the City of Marquette. “The ice isn't down; it's just the dry floor right now so we will try to get as many people as we can in here. We want the kids up front, and then we will also have the bleachers open too for anyone who wants to sit. We are just encouraging everyone who supported us, as many people as possible. I mean we really want to pack this place and show the rest of the country that we really are passionate about this, and we are passionate about hockey."

The announcement is taking place at 3 p.m. during the intermission of a NHL playoff game. NBC is live streaming the viewing party from the inside of the arena. The community is encouraged to come early to enjoy free food, entertainment, and games before the announcement is made.
