ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Upper Peninsula of Michigan Conservative Political Action Committee is holding their first ever conference this weekend.

The 2 day event is being held at the Highland Golf Course in Escanaba.

The goal of the group is to ensure that conservative values, traditions and morality hold a place in modern politics.

An introductory meet and greet took place Friday. The event continues on Saturday morning with several speakers beginning at 10am.

Several candidates running in the 2018 elections will be speaking at the conference including Republican gubernatorial candidate, State Senator Patrick Colbeck.

Colbeck explained why he felt his political views would go over well in the U.P.

"First of all there are a lot of people of faith up here which really resonates. And people that just cut to the chase and that say enough of this politics as usual talking point garbage. I actually want someone who is going do something. I want someone who is going to fix things and I want everybody to be treated equally."
