Two people in critical condition after Ely Township head-on collision Saturday

ELY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - Two people are in critical condition after a head-on collision in Marquette County Saturday.

On Saturday evening at 6:27 p.m., Ishpeming Fire and Marquette County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to County Road 581 near Island Lake Road for a two-vehicle head on collision.

A 22-year-old Ishpeming man driving a black pickup was pinned in his vehicle with severe injuries. The other driver, a 31-year-old Ishpeming man, driving a Chevrolet pickup truck was also pinned in his vehicle with severe injuries. Both drivers were extracted from their vehicles and transported by Bell EMS to U.P. Health System Marquette in stable but critical condition.

Alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash, but the accident remains under investigation.

County Road 581 was reduced to one lane for approximately two and a half hours while officers investigated the accident.

Marquette County Deputies were assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police, Rescue 131, Ely Township Fire and Rescue, Ishpeming Township Fire and Bell EMS.
