Tasson not sentenced, plea deal will likely be amended

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Jamie Tasson is facing seven felony charges and is accused of embezzling more than $250,000 from her previous employer, Superior Eye Health and Vision Therapy and Dr. Heidi Johnson.

Tasson originally pleaded guilty to one felony count in exchange for no jail time and would be required to pay 10 percent of the involved funds, but the agreement will likely be amended.

"Jamie Tasson should be required to remember and show remorse for her crimes by making regular restitution payments," said Plaintiff Dr. Heidi Johnson. "If payments are not made she needs to go to prison."

Tasson did take the stand Friday morning in Marquette County Circuit Court to apologize.

"I want to say sorry and I, to say sorry, and to her family and my family and everyone else that I've impacted by my actions," said Defendant Jamie Tasson. "I broke everyone's trust and the only way to rebuild it is by my actions overtime and not my words."

Tasson was expected to be sentenced Friday, but instead the court proceedings have been pushed to next week.

Dr. Heidi Johnson made it clear she is not comfortable with what Tasson did and she would like Tasson to serve some jail time.

"Why are we letting a criminal off so easy?" said Dr. Heidi Johnson. "She nearly destroyed my business and everything I have worked for the in the last 30 years and took hundreds of thousands of dollars."

A new sentencing date is set for Wednesday, Jan. 17.
