Snowmobile accident in Gogebic County claims life of Wisconsin woman

GOGEBIC COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a snowmobile accident that claimed the life of a 51-year-old Wisconsin woman earlier Friday.

The Sheriff’s Office received the report shortly before 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The incident occurred on Powderhorn Road just north of US-2. The initial investigation revealed that a group of snowmobiles was traveling southbound in the unplowed right of way when the victim, Michele M. Megard of Hudson, Wis, lost control of her snowmobile and rolled into a ditch. She was subsequently struck by another member of her group.

The victim was transported to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital by Beacon Ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Wakefield Post.
