L'ANSE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Baraga County Shelter is feeling thankful after a successful rummage sale on Saturday, June 17.
The community donated various items for the shelter to sell while vendors rented tables to sell their own products at L'Anse High School.
All the proceeds will directly benefit the shelters programs and services for those seeking support after domestic and sexual violence. Some of the services the shelter provides are legal, housing and financial advocacy, transportation and also criminal and civil justice accompaniment.
"Right now we are largely grant funded and so there are a number of activities that we just can’t do with grant funds as much as we appreciate that funding," said the Baraga County Shelter executive director, Char Spruce. "The support from the community is huge, it has a huge impact on us directly providing services to our clients."
This is the first community rummage sale the shelter has hosted in a while, and after the success of Saturday's sale, the shelter hopes to make this rummage sale fundraiser an annual event for the community in the future.
