NORWAY, Mich. (WLUC) - One family in Norway is doing their part to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s. Wayne Backlund and his family hosted a pickleball tournament and picnic Thursday at Marion Park.
Tournament players were asked to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family wanted to raise awareness to a disease that they personally deal with every day.
"It really affects not only the individual with Alzheimer’s but the entire family,” Wayne Backlund told TV6 News. “It wears you down, caretaking. It's sad to see your loved one just slowly fade away. My wife has been in the long stages of it. We are in our eleventh year."
This was the first year for the tournament, but the family hopes to bring it back annually.
