UPDATE: OWI suspected after driver hits MSP SUV in L'Anse

The driver who was arrested Thursday night has been released after posting bond. The driver is scheduled for arraignment on May 9th.

A driver was arrested late Thursday night in L'Anse on suspicion of drunken driving after hitting a Michigan State Police SUV on the shoulder of US-41.

The trooper from the Calumet Post was in their vehicle when it was rear-ended around 11:35 p.m. The trooper was treated and released at a local hospital, according to a news release from Michigan State Police.

The trooper was parked on the shoulder performing patrol - not a traffic stop.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Baraga County Jail by the L'Anse Police Department. Their identity won't be released until they're arraigned. They were not injured.

Baraga Police and KBIC Police also assisted at the scene.
