NIAGARA, Wis. (WLUC) - The Niagara Lions Club is joining other Wisconsin Lions Clubs to collect school supplies.
The group has been collecting supplies for underprivileged students for five years now. In those five years, the groups have collected $1.4 million in school supplies.
They accept everything from markers and notebooks, to backpacks and even cash donations.
"There is a great need,” Lions Club Secretary, Kerry Grippen, said. “It's getting more and more expensive for parents to get enough money to get the kids to go to school. That's why we do it."
"We are very thankful that we have all these supplies that the children can come and shop,” a Niagara teacher, Julie Butler said. “On our open house night, we have all of the supplies laid out where all of the kids can come and take what they need."
Donations will be collected August 11 at Niagara's Great Lakes Fresh Market.
