MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Brand new parking meters are now operational at the Marquette Commons and part of Baraga Avenue. Installation began early last month, around the downtown area on these new, smart meters. Meters on Front Street, Third Street, and the rest of Baraga Avenue should be fully operational next week.
The Downtown Development Authority said the new meters are a major upgrade.
“[The old meters] were continually breaking, so it was really becoming a maintenance nightmare,” DDA Executive Director Mona Lang said. “So it was really time to update, to make it much easier for people to use, once they get used to them. But really, more convenient for people to use.”
The DDA hopes to add a feature where you can pay with your phone by next summer.
