Missing hiker in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

MUNISING, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE July 15, 6:18 p.m.:

Kara Moore went missing from a hike in the Little Beaver Creek/Beaver Basin Wilderness area of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Moore was last seen mid-day on Friday, July 14 hiking on the Little Beaver Lake Trail. She is 57, white, 5’4” tall, with long gray hair and wearing metal rim glasses. She is wearing black pants, tennis shoes, a purple sweatshirt and a turquoise jacket, and has a multicolored backpack.

If anyone has information or sees the woman, please remain with her and call 911.

Agencies with personnel looking for the woman include the Michigan State Police (canine team and helicopter), the National Park Service, Alger County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan DNR, and the US Forest Service.

A 57 year old woman from downstate Michigan is missing in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Department reports several agencies have been actively searching for the woman. Her name is not being released at this time. Authorities say she’s been missing since Friday at 5 pm. The woman also has a medical condition, causing her to be easily confused.

Alger County Rescue 21, the National Park Service and a helicopter from the Michigan State Police are currently searching an area near Little Beaver Lake, where the woman was last seen.

An official with the Alger County Sheriff’s Department says the woman was hiking in area. They say she’s somewhat familiar with the area having been there before.
