NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: Thursday 6:00 p.m.
Michigan State Police Negaunee Post were dispatched to US-41 just East of Pond Road in Negaunee Township for a traffic crash. It happened around 12:30PM.
Katherine HoHolik, 66, from Negaunee was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima. She was traveling West on US-41 in the inside lane. She had to come to a stop in the inside lane for a 1996 GMC truck towing a small trailer. The truck was driven by Rodney Arnold, 54, of Negaunee. Arnold was in the designated turn lane waiting to travel East. While his vehicle was stopped his trailer was partially blocking the Westbound inside lane. While HoHolik was stopped, her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2003 Honda Pilot driven by 19-year-old Gavin Ackland of Champion.
As a result, HoHolik's vehicle was pushed across the Eastbound lanes of US-41 and came to a final rest on the South side of US-41. There were no injuries in the crash. Ackland was cited for traveling too fast for conditions.
Assisting agencies were Michigan State Police Carrier Division, Marquette County Sheriff's Department, UP Health Systems, and the Negaunee Twp. Fire Department.
A two vehicle accident happened this afternoon in Negaunee Township.
Michigan State Police responded to US-41 Near Kassel's Gas Station for the minor crash around 1p.m. After the accident occurred, the vehicles ended up on opposite sides of the highway with significant damage to both cars.
No injuries were reported, but traffic was slowed down and moved to one lane during cleanup.
