WASHINGTON (WLUC) - Guy Meadows, director of Michigan Technological University's Great Lakes Research Center, will testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation's Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard at 10 a.m. Thursday in Washington, DC.
The topic of the hearing is "Coast Guard Readiness: How Far Can We Stretch our Nation's Only Multi-Mission Military Force?"
The subcommittee is examining the Coast Guard's role in preparation and response to national disasters, as well as drug enforcement, ice-breaking, safety of navigation, oil spill response and non-maritime emergency response.
Others testifying include Admiral Paul Zukunft, commandant of the US Coast Guard, Lee Smithson of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and Etta Kuzakin of King Cove, Alaska.
