The hottest tickets for the coldest showdown

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - We told you tickets were going to be available soon for the Kraft Hockeyville 2016 Pre-Season Game at Lakeview Arena last week, but that date has come.

Tomorrow night marks the first time you can enter the lottery to watch the Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabers kick-off their season right here in the Upper Peninsula.

While we're still three weeks from the NHL Pre-Season Game, Lakeview Arena is busy making improvements for the big game.

"There's a lot of things being done for a liability sake for the NHL game, but also just to make the building presentable for the national spotlight,” said Andrew MacIver, parks and recreation coordinator for the City of Marquette. “We've got a lot of people working very hard and donating some extra time. We've got a couple of things that we're looking to finish up still like our boards and glass, those will be going up over the week here and we have some work on our compressor system that will be finished up within the week."

While they are busy making improvements, community members are able to sign-up for tickets at Lakeview Arena Tuesday the 13th, Thursday the 15th and Wednesday the 21st from 6-9 pm. Those eligible must be 18 years and older, a resident of Michigan and have a form of identification with them such as a license. After sign-ups there will be a lottery on September 25th. The eligible winners will be announced on the 28th and will get two free tickets.

"We just want to get as many people signed up as we can and hopefully we have enough tickets and everybody gets a chance to come in at either the practice or the game,” said Doug Garrow, chairman of the local organizing committee for Kraft Hockeyville. “But if not, it will be on national television and you can go to a local establishment and I'm sure the atmosphere is going to be great there too."

The local organizing committee says they're planning a number of events leading up to the game like a fun fair, parade, gala and much more.

"It's really exciting for us because it's been since what April or May that we've been working on this and now we can release all the information and all the different events we're going to have,” said Garrow. “It's going to be a big community celebration surrounding this facility and what it means to the town."

Officials at Lakeview Arena say they hope to begin laying ice later this weekend in preparation for the big game on October 4th.

The press releases below outline the events for the Kraft Hockeyville celebration from October 1st until the 4th. You can also find more details on ticketing for the event in our related links tab or in the press release below.
