NOVI, Mich. (WLUC) - One Upper Peninsula hospital has been awarded the Top Rural Hospital award by the Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM), a nonprofit group made of Michigan’s largest employers and unions and a Washington D.C. based organization, The Leapfrog Group.
OSF St. Francis Hospital, Escanaba is one out of 18 hospitals in the country to earn the Top Rural Hospital award.
This year marks the fifth time in six years that OSF St. Francis Hospital has received this award.
The President of EAM, Bret Jackson said, “OSF St. Francis has earned this award five out of six of the last years – simply an amazing feat. We commend this hospital for once again achieving this exceptional status,” Jackson said. “Residents of the Upper Peninsula sometimes look at hospitals in Wisconsin for their care, instead they should know that some of the best hospitals in the country are already in their backyard.”
The Top Hospital award is given to three categories that include: Teaching, general, rural and children’s hospitals.
The other Michigan hospitals that earned the Top Hospital award are:
• MidMichigan Medical Center – Gladwin, Top Rural Hospital
• St. joseph Mercy, Oakland, Pontian, Top Teaching Hospital
• St. Joseph Mercy – Chelsea, Top General Hospital
