MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - An apprenticeship crew from Local Union 906, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, volunteered time and work towards the Women's Center.
Outdated light fixtures were in much need of replacement and the center could afford to pay for the fixtures, but not for the labor of installation. Through the collaboration of the Upper Peninsula Construction Council and Local Union 906, the new tenants for the room, Northern Lights Martial Arts will have efficient lighting. This same crew helped change out the lights in Pak Ratz Resale Shop earlier in the year.
"It was about 88 fixtures, I think, that they changed out” said Bob Knaus, Finance Manager for the Women’s Center. “So then again, we bought the fixtures, but they did all of the installation and they had a pretty big crew out here and got all of that done. We wouldn't have been able to afford to do it without their help."
The goal with replacing the fixtures is to save around 3,500 dollars in electrical costs.
