Little Brothers expands to Marquette County

HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly is expanding to Marquette County. The new office is located near Northern Michigan University with the hopes of attracting volunteers.

Little Brothers volunteers provide companionship to elderly people with no family support. The recognized the need for a Marquette office as their holiday party attendance increased in that area.

“The need is there. We believe the need is there. We believe the need throughout the U.P. We want to spread Little Brothers. We want to reach out to elderly people in the U.P. who are alone, who are isolated, who don't have a lot of family support,” Executive Director Kathy Kass-Aten said. “We're excited. The timing is right.”

The new office opened Monday at 1716 Presque Isle Avenue in Marquette in the Classics Barbershop Building. They are looking for donations, volunteers, and referrals to elderly people in need.

Little Brothers offices are located in Houghton, Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Baraga counties.
