Not guilty verdict in Jason Robert's animal torture case

GOGEBIC COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) After two hours of deliberation, the jury returned a not guilty verdict for an Ironwood man charged with animal torture.

35-year-old Jason Roberts is accused of letting dogs maul a wounded coyote in 2014.

Testimony concluded with only one person, a DNR agent, taking the stand Thursday.

Roberts did not testify and neither did Dale Allen, who was allegedly hunting with Roberts at the time of the incident.

The prosecution says the two men allegedly shot the coyote. Afterwards, Allen videotaped his dogs mauling the wounded animal.

The court heard closing arguments Thursday night.

After deliberation, the jury found Roberts not guilty on three separate counts: animal torture, animal cruelty, and wildlife conservation part general violation, respectively.
