ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The food pantry organized by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Escanaba not only handles food distribution to families and individuals but also organizes community meals throughout the year.
The Escanaba pantry provides for roughly 225 families a month and those numbers are rising.
During this years Canathon, the pantry saw many of the pre-bagged donation packages coming in as well as an increase in cash donations.
Barbara Van Ermen has managed the St. Vincent De Paul pantry in Escanaba for years and says this year had been OK but not great.
"(Donations) pretty much stayed the same as last year. The need is always there. No matter if we have more or less in our pantry we try to meet the needs of those that come and need our help."
Families who could use the service are encouraged to contact any St. Vincent de Paul office.
