STRAITS OF MACKINAC, Mich. (WLUC) - On this Fourth of July, a large American flag is flying from the south tower of the Mackinac Bridge.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority says it plans to display the flag for five holidays each year, weather permitting: Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

The flag is displayed in line with the U.S. Flag Code, which calls for the flag to be hung vertically over a street, with the union on the east.

The bridge authority says it bought the 30' by 60' flag last year before Labor Day, but weather at the bridge did not allow it to be displayed until this Memorial Day.
