House fire breaks out at Ishpeming residence

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - A small house fire broke out on the 500 block of E. Ridge Street this afternoon.

Around 3:46 p.m., residents of the home smelled smoke in the house and dialed 911.

When the Ishpeming Fire Department arrived on scene, they saw a flame and smoke coming from an exterior wall in the back of the house and quickly knocked it down.

The residents were able to get out of the house safely, but their house sustained moderate fire, water and smoke damage. They will not be staying at the house this evening.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is not suspicious in nature and is still under investigation. Fire crews left the scene around 5 p.m.

One Ishpeming firefighter was cut on the arm and was taken to UPHS Bell for stitches and was later released.

Ishpeming Fire was assisted by Negaunee Fire Department, Marquette County 131 Rescue, UP Health System Bell, UPPCO and SEMCO.
