MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Department stores aren't the only ones handing out Black Friday deals this weekend. A local animal shelter is getting in on the action as well.

Zappos.com is partnering with North Shore Animal League to help animals find their “furever” homes this weekend. It's called “Home for the Pawlidayz.” Partnering shelters of North Shore Animal League are participating across the country, and Zappos.com is paying all of the animal adoption fees. Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) and PetSmart are taking part this year to get all kinds of furry friends adopted for the holidays.

"UPAWS is the only shelter in Michigan, but there are others all over the country, so we're very grateful and super excited for our community. Come out and add a furry friend and bring it home for the pawlidayz!" exclaims Ann Brownell, Community Outreach Coordinator of UPAWS.

This is UPAWS third year participating in the event. They have cats, dogs, and rabbits available. The event is Friday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. each day. PetSmart also has guinea pigs and mice available as well.

If you would like to adopt a pet this weekend, you can go to www.upaws.org to see if you qualify, and fill out an adoption form.
