IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - Two Upper Michigan residents are overseas competing in international luge competitions at this moment.

13 year old Torrey Cookman of Marquette, came in 3rd in the juvenile class while 17 year old Tristen Vidlund of Negaunee came in 16th out of 29 competitors in the junior women's class.

The competition took place in Holz, Austria and now the pair is on their way to Seis, Italy for another competition before returning to Austria for their 3rd, and final, competition of the trip.

UP luge club President, Fred Anderson, invites everyone to come out and give luge a try.

"It's getting very popular and people are really enjoying just trying the sport. That's the first thing is that we make it a fun family activity. If some people do good they have some real neat opportunities."

If you have an interest in trying luge then please use the link to the luge club's Facebook information and contact them about the possibilities.
