ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - It's already time to start looking ahead to the fall when it comes to getting your children involved in a head start program.

April 24th through the 28th is head start week in Delta, Schoolcraft and Menominee counties.

Head start helps children develop the skills they'll need to be effective in school.

There are still spaces available at all six locations in the three counties, but they are going fast.

Program director Myra Smeester say that applying to get your child in head start isn't a difficult process.

"To do an application it's maybe a 20 minute process. There are some standards we have to meet so it has to happen in the interview process because we do ask a couple question about the family and the children but it's pretty simple."
