HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - Work is set to begin Friday on US-41 in Hancock. This will be the final phase of work that started last year. The $2 million project is a total reconstruct of US-41, which in that area is called Front Street.

The work will be between Reservation Street and the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Work will also be done at the southbound US-41 connector ramp to eastbound M-26.

"The pavement there is very much worn out and in need of repair and one thing we will be able to do there is widen the road very slightly," Al Anderson, M-DOT Construction Engineer. "We ask for motorists patience as this project goes through."

M-DOT does have an aggressive schedule and hopes to have the project done in July. M-DOT officials advise using caution around road crews. Traffic will be down to one lane in each direction during the work.
