MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette Alger Reading Council is wrapping up their 'Gift of Reading' book drive. They've been collecting monetary donations as well as new books for the drive. Snowbound books in Marquette has been helping by taking the donations.
The goal is to collect the new books from other locations as well, including schools and libraries, then distributes the books to places where families can pick them out. The new books collected are for all ages of children.
"As our society becomes increasingly busy and distracted and commercial, giving books gives a message that maybe we need to focus and be silent and engage in something beyond yourself," said Dianne Patrick, Manager at Snowbound Books. "I think giving books is an important thing to a child especially."
The Marquette Alger Reading Council has several programs and initiatives throughout the year all aimed at promoting reading and literacy.
