MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Marquette County middle school students took a field trip to Presque Isle Friday afternoon to learn about forestry.
Green Timber Consulting Foresters partnered with Northern Michigan University, Michigan Tech University, the DNR, and other forestry operations to put on a Forestry Field Day. Kids ranging from 5th to 8th grade learned how to measure trees, and talked about products that come from trees other than wood. This is an outreach and educational service that was possible with a grant through the DNR.
"We want to offer the opportunity for them to learn about natural resources, forestry, forest health, forest products; and what kind of education and professional opportunities are available to them in that field" said Justin Miller, President of Green Timber Consulting Foresters.
Around 200 kids from Negaunee, Aspen Ridge, and North Star Academy attended the field day.
